Gary Dewar joined 4 PARA in 1981, he passed P Coy at Aldershot and his Passing Out Parade was held at Imphal Barracksk, York.

Pte Dewar completed his Military Parachutist course at Brize Norton in October 1981 and served with B Coy based at Rifle Street, Oldham and went on exercises in the UK and Germany.

He left 4 PARA on joining Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as a Fire fighter in 1984.

Gary Dewar served for 30 years with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attaining the rank of Station Commander prior to retiring in 2014. During his service with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service he was awarded the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct (LSGC) Medal for dedicated and valuable service.
