Corporal Frederick William Ball, son of Joseph Proctor Ball and Eliza Ann Ball, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, served with 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Normandy campaign, and was awarded a Mention in Despatches during his military career.

Corporal Ball died on 22 August 1944, aged 25 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
