Private Frederick J Williams

Frederick James Williams was the son of John Henry and Elizabeth Williams, of Morriston, Glamorgan, he enlisted in the Welch Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Williams successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 98 from 10 to 21 January 1944. His course report stated “Quiet but cheerful, parachuting fair.” He was posted to 9th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day).

Pte Williams was killed in action on 8 June 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated at Bayeux Memorial, Calvados, France.
