Frederick John Karston was born in Eire and lived in Ipswich, Suffolk, he enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Lance Corporal Karston successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway and was posted to 195 Airlanding Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
L/Cpl Karston was killed in action on 9 June 1944, aged 40, and was given a field burial at Longueval and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France on 2 June 1945.
