Private Frank Holroyd

15 Feb 1910 - 05 Feb 1943

Private Frank Holroyd was the son of Arthur and Mary Holroyd, and husband of Elizabeth Holroyd, of Glasgow.

He served with 1st Parachute Battalion and took part in the North African campaign, during Op Torch. He volunteered for the airborne forces on 8 June 1942 after previously serving with The Manchester Regiment.

Frank was parachute jump trained at RAF Ringway on Course 17a. This early course ran between 5 and 13 July 1942. 3 officers and 99 other ranks also successfully completed this course with Frank.

After training Frank became a member of 1st Parachute Battalion, S Coy, 7 Platoon.

Private Holroyd died on 5 February 1943, aged 32 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Medjez-el-Bab War Cemetery, Tunisia.
