Sergeant Frank Chadwick

Frank Chadwick, son of Arthur and Nellie Chadwick and husband of Ivy Chadwick, of Lewes, Sussex, enlisted into The South Lancashire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Chadwick successfully completed parachute training on course 72 at RAF Ringway on 12 to 23 July 1943. His course report stated ‘A very good type of NCO and jumped well’. He was posted to 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion.

He fought in the Normandy campaign and took part in the 6th Airborne Division response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during the winter of 1944-5.

Sgt Chadwick died of wounds on 3 January 1945, aged 25, during the Battle of Bure on 3 January 1945, He was given a field burial in Bure, Tellin and later reinterred in Hotton War Cemetery on 22 May 1947.
