Private Francis Yapp

Private Francis Yapp, of Jewish descent, was the husband of Joyce Yapp, of Sale, Cheshire. He served with 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Border Regiment and took part in the glider insertion to the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

Private Yapp died on 18 September 1944, aged 26 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.

Francis Yapp was known to me. During one conversation with him, I knew that he was Jewish. He remarked that if ever he was captured, he would be killed. In spite of this, he still took part in Market Garden.
