Private Francis P Mallinder

Francis Phillip Mallinder, son of Alfred Ernest and Rose Mallinder, of Stepney, London, enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and then volunteered for the airborne forces.

Private Mallinder attended the parachute course 28 at RAF Ringway from 21 to 28 September 1942. He was posted to 7 Platoon, S Company, the 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.

Pte Mallinder was Wounded in Action on 24 November 1942 and was Killed in Action on 3 February 1943, aged 23. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial.
