Private Fernley R Calver

Fernley Roland Calver was the son of William and Denise Calver, of Stowmarket, Suffolk. He enlisted in the Suffolk Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Calver successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 83, from 15 to 24 September 1943. His course report stated “Consistently good, unfailingly cheerful, a good jumper”. He was posted to HQ Company, 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Calver was killed in action on 10 June 1944, aged 22, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
