Staff Sergeant Ernest W Woodrow

Ernest Walter Woodrow was the husband of Marjorie Gladys Woodrow, of Tooting, Surrey. He enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Woodrow successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to Flight 8, D Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Woodrow was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 29, and was given a field burial between De Noordberg farm (Fonteinallee) and Koninginnelaan, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 8 January 1946.
