Lieutenant Ernest H Wild

Ernest Haydn Wild was the son of John James (a Colliery Storekeeper) and Ethel (Dilkes) Wild, of Bramley Vale, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was granted a commission in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Wild successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Lt Wild was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 26 March 1947.
