Private Ernest G Brown

Ernest George Brown, son of Mr and Mrs E G Brown, of Falmouth, Cornwall, enlisted in The General Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Brown successfully completed his glider training and was posted to 7th (Airborne) battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Brown was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 23, and given a field burial 100 yards west of Hartstein Hotel. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 10 September 1945.
