Corporal Eric A S Woodcock

Eric Arthur Sinclair Woodcock was the husband of Mary Woodcock, of Exeter; father of Michael Eric Woodcock, (1945 – 2006), he enlisted in the Devonshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Woodcock successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Cpl Woodcock was killed in action on 21 August 1944, aged 31, and was given a field burial at Douville and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 5 September 1945.
