Staff Sergeant Eric Phillips

Eric Phillips was the son of George and Annie Phillips, of Rastrick, Brighouse, Yorkshire. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Staff Sergeant Phillips successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

S/Sgt Phillips was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in a mass grave near the Schoonoord Hotel, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 13 August 1945.
