Private Eric G Clarke

Eric George Clarke was born in Liverpool and lived in Wallasey, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Clarke successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 97 from 5 to 15 January 1944. His course report stated “Good performer, cheerful and confident at all times.” He was posted to 22nd Independent Company, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Clarke was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 17 April 1947.
