Private Eric Collett

Eric Collett was the son of Charles Frederick William and Edith Louisa Collett, of Summertown, Oxford, he enlisted in the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and volunteered for airborne forces.

His father served with the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in WW 1.

Private Collett successfully completed glider training and was posted to D Company, 17 Platoon, (6th Platoon for the duration of the Coup-de-Main Raid), 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in Operation Overlord (as part of the Pegasus bridge Coup-de-Main Raid) and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Collett was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 30, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
