Private Elwyn G Davies

Elwyn George Davies was the son of George and Elizabeth Davies, of New Tredegar, Monmouthshire, he enlisted in the Welch Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Davies successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 86, from 4 to 19 October 1943. His course report stated “Very good performer, had previous experience, good man.” He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Davies was killed in action on 16 June 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in Le Mesnil and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
