Sergeant Edward Stanley

Edward Stanley was the son of Percy John and Edith Ellen Stanley, of St Albans, Hertfordshire, he enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Stanley successfully completed glider pilot training and was posted to 2nd Wing, the Glider Pilot Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (D day landings).

Sgt Stanley was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 23, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
