Lance Corporal Edward J Clarke

Edward James Clarke was born and lived in Norfolk, he enlisted in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Clarke successfully completed parachute training on course number CH3 at Chaklala, India and on return to the UK was posted to 9th (Essex) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Clarke was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 28, and was given a field burial at Gonneville-sur-Melville, and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 16 July 1945.
