Rifleman Edward D Payne

Edward Daniel Payne was the son of Percy and Florence Payne; husband of Doreen Payne, of Redruth, Cornwall, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Rifleman Payne successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Rfn Payne was killed in action on 8 June 1944, age 24, and was given a field burial in Longueval and re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 8 June 1945.
