Private Edward Bannister

Private Edward Bannister, was the husband of Ivy, and came from County Durham.

He served in the Royal Scots Fusiliers during World War II and volunteered for airborne forces while deployed overseas. 

Private Bannister qualified as a military parachutist at Kabrit and subsequently served with C Company, 156th Parachute Battalion, on operations in Italy and Arnhem. 

He is known to have returned to the UK and is believed to have been posted to the Army Airborne Transport Development Centre, then based at Amesbury Abbey.

Private Bannister died on 13 January 1946 and is now buried at Holy Trinity Churchyard, Wingate, Durham.
