Douglas Stanley Goold, son of Frederick and Annete Goold; husband of Gwyneth Goold, of Lantwit Fardre, Glamorgan, enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant Goold successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to A Squadron, 1st Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Goold was killed in action, aged 24, on 25 September 1944 and was given a field burial in an isolated grave by the Hotel Sonnenberg at Oosterbeek, he was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 17 October 1945.
