Company Sergeant Major Douglas A Godfrey

Company Sergeant Major Douglas Aubrey Godfrey was the son of Charles and Dorothy Godfrey, and husband of Violet Mary Godfrey, of Cosheston, Pembrokeshire.

He served with 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.

He died of wounds on 28 September 1944, aged 27 years old. He is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.

CMS Douglas Aubrey Godfrey (known as Dan) was hit in the stomach during the evacuation on the morning of September 26th. He died of his wounds in captivity in a hospital in Apeldoorn on 28th September. He was 27 years old.
