Private Douglas Conquest

Douglas Conquest, son of Joshua and Agnes Conquest, of Belper, Derbyshire, enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Conquest successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course 118 from 29 May to 15 June 1944. His course report stated, 'Cheerful disposition. Keen conscientious worker.' He was posted to The 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion. He took part in The Ardennes and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Conquest was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial.
