Trooper Donald M Gale

01 Sep 1919 - 18 Jun 1944

Donald Maurice Gale was the son of Wallace and Ellen Mildred (Boyt) Gale; husband of Lily Loretti (Walker) Gale, of Verwood, Dorsetshire. Married June 1940 at Bearminster, Wiltshire., he enlisted in the Dorsetshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Gale successfully completed parachute training and was posted to 1st Special Air Service Regiment, Army Air Corps and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).

Pte Gale was killed in action on 18 June 1944, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
