Desmond completed his parachute training at PTS Kabrit in India, course number 21.
He joined K Section, 2 Coy, 4 Para Brigade, Royal Signals, part of the 1 Airborne Division as a Lance Corporal.
He was taken prison of war during the Battle for the Arnhem bridge in September 1944.
