Private Dennis A Woodgate

Dennis Arthur Woodgate was the son of Arthur Francis and Mary Kate Woodgate (Murphy), of Orpington, Kent, he enlisted in the Lowland Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Woodgate successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 81 from 6 to 16 September 1943. His course report stated “Happy adaptable pupil”. He was posted to 7th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Woodgate was killed in action on 20 June 1944, aged 20, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
