Dennis Harold Burgess was the son of Ernest Garfield and Miriam Burgess, of Kingswood, Gloucestershire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Gunner Burgess successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Gnr Burgess was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 20. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
