Sergeant Denis McGowan

Denis McGowan was the son of Hugh and Alice McGowan, of Hounslow, Middlesex. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Sergeant McGowan successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to C Squadron, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt McGowan was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial in an isolated mass grave in Arnhem, near a garage and cross road. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 15 August 1945.
