Private Denis G Thorp

Denis Gregory Thorp was the son of Clement and Mary Thorp, of Bamford, Derbyshire.

He enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces. Private Thorp successfully completed his parachute training on course number 93 at RAF Ringway, from 29 November to 13 December 1943, and was posted to C Company, 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Thorp was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial near the Bilderberg sports ground, Oosterbeek, and was reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
