Rifleman David T Spence

25 Mar 1945

David Topping Spence was the son of Robert and Agnes Spence, of Whitehouse, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, he enlisted in the Royal Ulster Rifles and volunteered for airborne forces.

Rifleman Spence successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Rfn Spence was killed in action on 25 March 1945, age 26, and was given a field burial at Wissen Castle, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany on 23 October 1946.
