David Murdoch was born and lived in Greenock. He enlisted into the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Murdoch successfully completed his glider training and was posted to B Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Murdoch was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in the garden of the Dreyerood Hotel, Van Dedemweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 5 September 1945.
