Lance Sergeant David McLellan

David McLellan was the son of Tom and Mary McLellan, of Creetown, Kirkcudbrightshire. He enlisted in The King’s Own Scottish Borderers and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Lance Sergeant McLellan successfully completed his glider training and was posted to D Company, 7th (Airborne) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

L/Sgt McLellan was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 33, and was given a field burial in the garden of the Dreyeroord Hotel, Van Dedemweg, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 5 September 1945.
