David Bentley known as Benny joined the 7th Parachute Regiment RHA in 1999 following on from basic training at AFC Harrogate and trade training at The Royal School Of Artillery Larkhill. Here he completed training on the L118 105 mm Light gun and became part of a gun section in I Parachute Battery (Bulls Troop).

He passed Pre Parachute selection earning a place on P Company. After completing and passing P Company, he was posted to Number 1 Parachute Training School Brize Norton where he completed his parachute descents to become a qualified Military Parachutist.

Benny went on to become an Observation Post Assistant  as part of a Fire Support Team (FST) where he worked alongside Parachute Regiment Infantry soldiers and was responsible for directing artillery fire and close air support  (ground attack by attack aircraft) onto enemy positions.

He deployed operationally to Iraq in 2003 (OP TELIC) and Afghanistan (OP HERRICK 4) in 2006 

He also deployed to Kenya, Oman, Brunei 

Keen regimental Rugby Union and Rugby League player who also represented the Gunners at core level.
