Signalman Cyril E Smith

Cyril Ernest Smith was the son of Walter and Annie Smith and the husband of Margaret Smith, of Harpenden, Hertfordshire. He enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Signalman Smith successfully completed glider training and was posted to K Section, 1st Airborne Divisional Signals, Royal Corps of Signals, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sigmn Smith was killed on 25 September 1944, aged 26, during the withdrawal over the Rhine and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
