Private Clifford Tomlinson

Clifford Tomlinson, son of Harry and Mary Tomlinson, of Bury, Lancashire, enlisted in The Lancashire Fusiliers and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Tomlinson successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 13, from 6 to 21 May 1942, and was posted to S Company 7 platoon, 1st Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, and took part in the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Tomlinson was killed in action on 20 September 1944, aged 22, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
