Sergeant Claude Marriott

Claude Marriott was born in Cambridgeshire and lived in Grimsby. He enlisted into the Coldstream Guards and volunteered for airborne forces.

Sergeant Marriott successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 2nd Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Sgt Marriott was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 27, and was given a field burial in the grounds of Hotel Sonnenberg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 20 August 1945.
