Lieutenant Christopher A Selwyn

Christopher Arnold Selwyn was the son of Edward Gordon and Phyllis Eleanor (Hoskyns) Selwyn; husband of Jean Margaret (Smith) Selwyn, of Iden, near Rye, East Sussex, he was commissioned into The King’s Royal Rifle Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lieutenant Selwyn successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 146B from 14 to 31 December 1944. He was posted to B Company, 6 Platoon, 13th (2/4th Battalion the South Lancashire Regiment) Bn., the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Lt Selwyn was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 29, whilst taking part in the daylight parachute drop into Germany as part of the Rhine Crossing during operation Varsity and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 12 November 1946.
