Christopher James Hughes, born in Guernsey, was the son of Edward Christopher and Minnie (Ferbrache) Hughes, of Halifax. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Rifleman Hughes successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1st (Airborne) Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Rfn Hughes was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 19, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 23 April 1947.
