Corporal Charles H Sheldon

Charles Henry Sheldon was the husband of Margaret Joan Sheldon, of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, he enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Corporal Sheldon successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 41, from 3 to 17 December 1942. His course report stated “Has progressed satisfactorily”. He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).

Cpl Sheldon was killed in action on 10 June 1944, aged 28, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
