I was involved in making the LZ larger for the RAF Pumas, they had taken over from the Kiwi pilots and their Hueys. The RAF threw the rule book at us stating they needed a greater safety margin for their rotors. Taff had led a patrol to resume a Re-bro section and was on his way back. Although halted beyond the considered safety margin for the explosion to clear trees. The dead-wood up in the tree canopy caused a knock on effect far greater than expected, leading to Taff’s fatal accident.
