Gunner Bertie Baxter

Bertie Baxter was the husband of Elsie Baxter, of Wind Hill, Shipley, Yorkshire. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Gunner Baxter successfully completed glider training and was posted to D Troop, 1 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Gnr Baxter was killed in action on 21 September 1944, aged 36. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
