Bert Haydon served with The Royal Artillery prior to volunteering for airborne forces during World War II and qualified as amilitary parachutist on course 97, which ran at RAF Ringway in January 1944.
He served in the campaigns to liberate North West Europe from German occupation in 1944-45 with 5 Para Brigade HQ.
