Private Bernard Hopwood

22 Sep 1944

Bernard Hopwood was the son of John and Emily Hopwood, of Mynydd Isa, Flintshire. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne forces.

Private Hopwood successfully completed glider training and was posted to B Company, 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Hopwood was killed in action on 22 September 1944, aged 20, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
