Corporal Ben Wade

Ben Wade was the husband of Frances Wade (Hallas), of Halifax, Yorkshire, he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Corporal Wade successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 86, from 4 to 19 October 1943. His course report stated “Good NCO, leads section with confidence, performance good”. He was posted to Royal Army Service corps and attached to 224 Para Field Ambulace, 6th Airborne Division, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Cpl Wade died of wounds on 19 June 1944, aged 29, at a Main Dressing Station (MDS), and was given a field burial at Le Mesnil and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 26 June 1945.
