Lance Corporal Barry B Thompson

22 Aug 1944

Barry Beverley Thompson was the son of Stanley Henry and Beryl Irene Thompson, of Kenton, Middlesex, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Lance Corporal Thompson successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 88, from 18 to 30 October 1943. His course report stated “Possesses fitness and enthusiasm, showed good style in parachuting”. He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

L/Cpl Thompson was killed in action on 22 August 1944, aged 20, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
