Private Aubrey J Finch

Aubrey J Finch was born in Souldern, near Banbury, Oxford. His mother’s maiden name was Tomkins. He enlisted in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry and volunteered for Airborne Forces.

Private Finch successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Ox and Bucks Light Infantry and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Pte Finch was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 28, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery on 21 March 1947.
