Arthur Pugh was the son of James Frederick and Eliza (Kent) Pugh; husband of Louisa Jane (Robinson). They married in October 1936, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Pugh successfully completed glider training and was posted to 12th (Airborne) Battalion, Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Pte Pugh was killed in action on 24 March 1945, age 32, and was given a field burial at Hamminkeln, Germany, and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 26 March 1947.
