Private Arthur A L Summersby

Arthur Alec Lionel Summersby was the son of Ernest and Annie Summersby, of Slough, Buckinghamshire; Husband of Doreen R Summersby, he enlisted in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Summersby successfully completed glider training and was posted to 2nd (Airborne) Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, and took part in operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Summersby was killed in action on 7 June 1944, age 20, and was given a field burial at Escoville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 28 June 1945.
