Lance Sergeant Arthur L Cox

Arthur Lock Cox was born on 25 Jan 1912 in Portsmouth, and trained as a van driver. In 1937 he married Doris Millicent Randall.

Arthur Cox enlisted on 24 June 1940 into and was posted to the Infantry Training Centre, Dorchester where he undertook training on Driver Mechanics.

Private Cox was posted to the 8th Dorsets in August 1941, and appointed Acting Lance Corporal in October.

In December 1941 Acting Corporal Cox transferred to 105 LAA (Light Anti-Aircraft) Regiment, Royal Artillery, in the rank of Bombardier.

Lance Sergeant Cox embarked for North Africa on 23 November 1942, arriving in December.

In May 1944 he transferred to the AAC and was posted to the 6th (Royal Welch) Battalion.

Corporal Cox was granted additional airborne pay in September 1945, and was posted to the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade Depot.

Cpl Cox was released to the Reserves in March 1946, having served in North Africa, Italy and Greece.
